Letitia gained her PhD and Master of Public Health at The University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) from the University of New England, Armidale NSW. She is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence: Quality and Safety in Integrated Primary-Secondary Care, based in the Discipline of General Practice at The University of Queensland’s School of Medicine. The Centre is conducting a program of research to measure the effectiveness of innovative models of primary-secondary care for people with complex chronic conditions. Letitia’s research interests include support for patients with chronic life-limiting conditions and for their family carers, and how to enhance their health and well-being in the primary care setting. She is also interested in the health and well-being of GPs, nurses and other health professionals working in the primary care setting, and the impact of compassion on the quality of their relationships with patients as well as on their own well-being. Letitia is motivated by the belief that working together with different groups in the research, hospital and community settings can make a difference in terms of understanding the factors that influence the delivery of quality health care in the real world. This kind of teamwork requires a mix of vision, perseverance and compassion.
