Jon Emery

Prof Jon Emery is Winthrop Professor of General Practice at the University of Western Australia. He is also a Senior Clinical Research Associate at the University of Cambridge and a practising GP. He is Director of the Cancer Australia Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4). He has recently been appointed to the Chair of Primary Care Cancer Research at the University of Melbourne as part of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
He studied medicine at Cambridge and Oxford and obtained his DPhil at Oxford on computer decision support to assess cancer risk in general practice. His specific research interests are in the role of primary care in cancer diagnosis and management, complex interventions, genetic medicine and primary care trials. Much of his research entails parallel programs of work on cancer screening, diagnosis and follow-up care in Australia and Cambridge.
He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in the last 12 years and has been a Chief Investigator on research grants and awards totalling GBP11m and an additional $AUD16 m, including more than $AUD13m in competitive NHMRC and Australian government grants since he arrived in Australia in 2004.
